Spend your summer making art with Tumbleweeds!
Each day at art camp we will be working on a structured art project as well as free art time to draw, paint, weave etc! We will also have a meet and share at the end of the day where we will discuss our artwork as well as other art from around the world. There will be outdoor snack time and playtime at McCarren Park (weather permitting) and lunchtime in the afternoon.
Cubism & Surrealism // July 9th-13th
During this week of camp students will experiment with imagination. We will be learning about the innovative art movements pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Andrew Breton. Students will begin to look at subjects in new ways in an effort to depict dreamlike images and three-dimensions on flat surfaces. They will be encouraged to experiment with a wide variety of methods and media creating bizarre juxtaposed realities. We will also be looking at the works and ideas of cubist and surrealist artists such as George Braque, Paul Klee, Salvador Dali, Max Ernst and many more!
Color Theory // July 16th-20th
During this week of camp students will be exploring color's powerful ability to express feelings, memories and mood while ultimately gaining a better knowledge of the world around them as is relates to color. Students will also learn about basic color theory, symbolism and how to represent & create color. We will also investigate the important roles that light and transparency play while creating a rainbow of artworks. This multimedia week of camp will draw inspiration from artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Dan Flavin, Frank Stella, Andre Derain, Henri Matisse and Josef Albers.
